Amethon’s Mobile Analytics is a Big Data, Streaming Analytics solution specifically designed to provide valuable and actionable insight on mobile data and mobile web usage to mobile operators.
Traditional solutions work by storing the entire network CDR and log data in a data warehouse and then using complex queries to analyse the information and generate reports. As mobile data usage and the associated meta-data to be analysed grows, these solutions become more and more expensive in terms of server hardware and software licenses, while the generation of reports becomes slower and slower.
Our solution works by pre-processing and analysing the traffic meta-data as it is generated by network nodes such as the DPI or optimisation gateway. This significantly reduces the volume of data that needs to be stored and queried which reduces the reporting lag to a few minutes as well as enabling reports to be generated in a matter of seconds.
Amethon’s Mobile Analytics also includes powerful classification and categorization engines which allow us to identify and report on the devices, operating systems and applications being used by subscribers as well as the sites and categories of service they are accessing.
Finally, a comprehensive web based Business Intelligence portal provides an excellent end user experience with customizable dashboards, a variety of report and chart types, automatic report generation and emailing, and powerful permissions management based on users, groups and roles.
How it works
Mobile Analytics collects, analyses, summarises and aggregates mobile data traffic in near real-time providing access to a wide range of reports and metrics through an intuitive yet fully-featured business intelligence platform. This means that reports are generated in seconds - not minutes, hours, days or weeks - and without the need to engage business analysts and data warehouse staff.
Collection of raw mobile data traffic depends on the specific application and deployment scenario. For mobile operators, this typically involved post-processing existing logs files generated by gateways, proxies, DPI nodes or network probes. For content publishers and mobile marketing agencies, our proprietary packet collection appliance is installed within the web server environment.
Metrics, Dimensions, Resolution and Filters
Each report is typically comprised of metrics and dimensions with a particular resolution based on one or more traffic filters.
Metrics
Metrics are the raw measures of traffic. Mobile Analytics supports the following metrics:
- Data usage
- Transactions
- The number of unique subscribers
Dimensions
Dimensions are the specific characteristic for which the metric is calculated. Mobile Analytics supports the following dimensions:
- Device brand and model (Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy IIs,
- Device screen resolution
- Device form factor (tablet, handset, desktop)
- Operating system and operating system version
- Application
- Content type
- Site and category
Resolution
Resolution is the time intervals for which metrics are reported. Mobile Analytics supports the following resolutions:
- Total (metrics are summed over the total period)
- Minute (subscriber tracking reports only)
- Hour
- Day
Filters
Filters allow the reports to be generated for a particular subset of traffic. All of the dimensions listed above can be used to filter the traffic individually or in combination. Mobile Analytics also supports the ability to filter traffic for a specific date or date range.
