The explosion in mobile data usage driving by smartphones and applications is creating a new headache for mobile operators - providing the tools and information to help subscribers understand what is consuming mobile data on their handsets.

Customer care staff are being overwhelmed by irate subscribers questioning excess data charges, requesting detailed breakdowns of mobile data usage and demanding the operator prove that the data services have actually been delivered. Operators are currently unable to provide this level of detailed information in a timely manner leading to customer dissatisfaction, contract cancellations or bill write-offs.
